Mitzi's Abortion, February, 16-18

While we were still nailing down our season, the head of Original Works Publishing, Jason Goldberg, approached us about producing this play. AWI Director Eliza VanCort decided not to produce it, based on the title alone. But Mr. Golberg continued to encourage us to give the play a read. Eventually Eliza read it, and then our staff read it, and we loved it. So, now we're producing Mitzi's Abortion, yet another show with an unmarketable title! We urge you to come check out this very human, funny, moving, story about an incredible young woman's personal journey after she finds out terrible news about the baby she's carrying. Handling controversial issues with humor and grace without ever being polemical or preachy, this show is a must see.  To read more about the show, check out this Ithaca Times article.

This show will run February 16 at 7:30pm, February 17 at 8pm and February 18 at 8pm. All performances take place at Risley Theatre, Cornell University. Tickets $15 general and $10 for students and seniors; please call Ticket Center Ithaca 273.4497. Any tickets not sold through Ticket Center will be sold at the Risley Theatre box office on the evening of the show for $20.

Please note there is a nominal handling fee for tickets sold through Ticket Center.  Follow this link to purchase tickets online.  However, we recommend you call as the Ticket Center fee is higher if you purchase online.

This show is being directed by C.A. Teitelbaum and stars Dayna Joan, Darryle Johnson, Kristin Sad, Dan Taylor, Deirdre Martin, Alek Osinski and Ria Burns-Wilder.

Museum, July 12-15 and 19-21

Last season, Workshop instructor David Kossack brought Poona the F*ckdog (and other plays for children) to Ithaca. The show was a huge hit.  Indeed, opening night found people scalping tickets in the theater's lobby! This year, David will assemble an even bigger cast with the madcap comedy Museum. Filled with wild characters and non-stop laughs, this show will leave you rolling in the aisles.

Directed by David Kossack.

Hatshepsut, The Female Pharaoh, January 12-14 (This is the inaugural show of our emerging playwright series.)

Please join us for the inaugural show of our emerging playwright series.  When notable Workshop alum Esosa Edosomwan was cast in this play's national tour, she asked the production team if they would allow her to kick off the tour at her alma mater with her former teacher, Eliza VanCort, directing the show. Much to our surprise and delight, they agreed. So, this January the Workshop will be premiering the national tour of first time playwright Timothy Lawrence's powerful one woman show.

Rabbit Hole, October 6-9

Notable actor and director Jeremy Webb returns to Ithaca to direct this 2007 Pulitzer Prize winning drama for AWI's tenth anniversary show. This dramatic yet unexepectedly funny show explores what happens to a family after tragedy strikes. Fittingly, the five person ensemble cast will star Katie Spallone, current Workshop instructor and the first student to sign up for classes at the Workshop when we opened our doors ten years ago. Eliza VanCort, founder of AWI and Katie's former teacher, will play Katie's sister in a supporting role.  The cast is rounded out by Lance Milne, Kristin Sad and Mark Whitmore.  Directed by Jeremy Webb.
